Last week I watched this awesome TED talk by Pico Iyer ‘Where is home’, it really resonated with me and my situation. I am Indian by birth and have been living in America for past 6 years now, I have a toddler who only eats Mac-and-cheese and I am a person who will walk miles for home-cooked Indian food, talk about dichotomies of life. America is not my home by birth but it’s my home by choice.
Back in India I grew up in an environment which was fairly westernized (I know, I know world is flat nowadays), with a healthy dose of exposure to American movies, music (I am a big Rock and roll fan :D ), food, fashion and TV I thought I am intrinsically ready to move to America with ease, but boy, 6 years back I was in for a surprise.
And it’s always the in the small things that you find the spice of life. Example driving on the right side, initial one year went by screaming on my husband while he was cruising American freeways (now I scream while driving back home), nonstop chattering about American football wherein I will cringe thinking- God they are not even playing it with foot (Now I am fine with football now as long as we keep having those awesome performances at halftime and my husband picks up junk food), those incessant THANK YOUS and opening the doors for each other(Jeez-We don’t do this in India, but I ain’t complaining). And brace yourself for the most burning question on Monday –What did you do on weekend. It nearly made me jump out of my skin the first time i was subjected to third degree, and I was really surprised to the core to find out that it’s not a rhetorical question, people will actually tell you what they did on weekend :D
So before you ask let me let me tell you what I did on this weekend, I met couple of my girlfriends for drinks, finally and yep I am going to tell you what I wore too and then i am going to ask what you did for weekend.
Check out what I wore:
I have been eyeing this Anthropologie swing dress by Pallavi Mohan (yep I have a thing for Indian designers and Indian cotton, look at the dress it has wonderful thread and beads work that can only be done in India), finally i grabbed it and this one is selling like hot cake.
It is has beautiful swing skirt with empire waist that is very forgiving. The embroidery and the bead work on this one is to die for, I adore the work on this one.
For the bag I finally bought a collectible bag, I have been going back and forth on the utility of owning a such bags with a little pig, who is still in diapers but anyways I took the plunge and I love Kate Spade’s ‘on pointe perfume bottle cross-body’, its big enough to carry your phone and cards and it is gorgeous pastel pink that basically justifies the buy :D
For sun glasses, I am wearing my Prada 52 mm sun glasses (yes this devil wears Prada), this one comes in four colors and is very classy and I going to stay in fashion for long time.
